Aside from being a hockey goaltender for more than a decade he became a world famous sculptor and painter.
Constanzo Mongini was just six years old when he began sculpting small pieces of clay that lay about in his parents garment workshop.
First of all he sculpted a Christ and then the portraits of his grandmother and grandfather.
In 1944, he attended the École des Beaux-Arts in Lausanne.
He played hockey for Crans-Montana in Switzerland aside from HC Milano.
Mongini established himself as an artist who always went his own way.
He liked to experiment and was very avant-garde, eccentric and provocative.
His triumphant bronze church door in Portofino has become a mecca for art lovers from all over the world.
One of his sculptures, the portrait of Cardinal Ottaviani is in the private collection of the Vatican.
He achieved worldwide fame through exhibitions from Beirut to Munich.
He was particularly wellknown and popular with collectors in Italy, Germany, England, Australia, the USA and Japan.
His name is often wrongly spelled as "Constanzo Mangini".

Ce gardien de hockey fut en réalité surtout un sculpteur et un peintre mondialement connu.
Constanzo Mongini a commencé la sculpture à six ans avec de petits morceaux d'argile qui gisaient dans l'atelier de ses parents.
Il a d'abord sculpté le Christ puis les portraits de ses grands-parents.
En 1944, il a rejoint l'École des Beaux-Arts de Lausanne.
Outre le HC Milan, il jouait au hockey à Crans-Montana quand il était en Suisse.
Mongini est devenu un artiste au style très personnel.
Il aimait experimenter dans une mouvance d'avant-garde, excentrique et provocante.
Sa porte d'église en bronze de Portofino est devenue la Mecque des amateurs d'art du monde entier.
L'une de ses sculptures, le portrait du Cardinal Ottaviani, fait partie de la collection privée du Vatican.
Il a connu une gloire mondiale avec des expositions de Beyrouth à Munich.
C'est surtout une référence pour les collectionneurs en Italie, Allemagne, Angleterre, Australie, aux États-Unis et au Japon.
Son nom est souvent mal écrit en "Constanzo Mangini".
