Brother-in-law of ex-NHLer Bobby Holík and son-in-law of the late Jaroslav Holík as he married Andrea Holíkova, who used to be a world class tennis player. Their sons David et Adam also represented Czech Republic.
Raised in Pardubice where he learned to play hockey.
A tough and relentless defenseman who played a North American brand of hockey. Thrived during hard-hitting games.
He was a reactive player rather than an active player. Always defensive minded and ready to make a safe play.
Had fine skating abilities and mobility, but wasn’t very technical. Strong along the boards and a team player.
Was only 18 years and 4 months old when he made his WC debut in 1983.
Represented Czechoslovakia / Czech Republic 100 times (11 goals).
All-Star defenseman at the 1992 World Championships.
Missed the entire 1999-2000 season with a spinal cord injury.
Came back and finally retired in 2001. Later scouted in the NHL.

Il a grandi à Pardubice où il a appris le hockey.
Défenseur coriace et implacable qui pratiquait un style nord-américain. Il était à son meilleur dans les matches très physiques.
Il était plus dans la réaction que dans l'action. Sa priorité était la défense et il privilégiait l'action la plus sûre.
De bonnes aptitudes de patinage et de mobilité, mais un jeu pas très technique. Joueur d'équipe, solide dans les bandes.
Il débuta aux Mondiaux à 18 ans et 4 mois en 1983.
100 sélections avec la Tchécoslovaquie / République Tchèque (11 buts).
Sélectionné dans l'équipe-type des Championnats du monde 1992.
Il loupa entièrement la saison 1999-2000 en raison d'une lésion à la moelle épinière.
Il revint au jeu mais s'arrêta définitivement en 2001. Il fut ensuite recruteur NHL.
140 points (34+106) en 797 parties de saison régulière dans la NHL.
