Began playing hockey at the age of six. His hockey idol growing up was Bobby Orr.
Emerged from the Cowichan Valley Capitals (BCJHL) where he was a teammate of future NHL’ers like Geoff Courtnall, Dean Evason and Dan Hodgson.
Moved to Europe in 1986 and played one year in Klostersee (West Germany) until relocating to Austria where he spent 17 seasons.
Six-time Austrian league champion : 1990, 1994, 1996, 1997, 1998 with Feldkirch, 2003 with Linz. Also won the Alpenliga four times.
Two-time top scorer in the Austrian league (1990 and 1993). Scored 1105 points (545+560) in 711 Austrian league games.
He had his finest hockey moment when Feldkrich win the European Hockey League in 1998.
One year later he faced his toughest experience when his wife Birgit lost their baby during birth.
Became an Austrian citizen in 1990. Represented Austria 111 times, scoring 76 points (41+35).
When Austrian clubs decided to consider them as foreigners in September 1999, he asked all Austro-Canadians to boycott the national team. He just had his house built in Rankweil. In the end he was the only one to boycott and never represented Austria again.
Retired in 2004. Went on to work as an assistant coach in Austria and Germany.

Il a commencé le hockey à six ans. Son idole d'enfance dans le hockey sur glace était Bobby Orr.
Il a émergé en junior chez les Cowichan Valley Capitals (BCJHL) où il était coéquipier de futurs joueurs de NHL comme Geoff Courtnall, Dean Evason et Dan Hodgson.
Il a déménagé en Europe en 1986 et a joué un an à Klostersee en Allemagne avant de passer 17 saisons en Autriche.
Six fois champion d'Autriche : 1990, 1994, 1996, 1997, 1998 avec Feldkirch, 2003 avec Linz. Il a aussi remporté quatre fois l'Alpenliga.
Deux fois meilleur marqueur du championnat autrichien (1990 et 1993), il y a marqué au total 1105 points (545+560) en 711 parties.
Il a connu son plus beau moment de hockey quand Feldkirch a remporté l'EHL en 1998.
Un an plus tard il a connu son moment le plus douloureux quand son épouse Birgit a accouché d'un enfant mort-né.
Devenu citoyen autrichien en 1990, il compte 111 sélections en équipe d'Autriche, marquant 76 points (41+35).
Lorsque les clubs autrichiens se sont accordés pour les considérer comme étrangers en septembre 1999, il a appelé tous les Austro-Canadiens à boycotter l'équipe nationale. Il venait juste de terminer la construction de sa maison à Rankweil. Son boycott ne fut pas suivi par ses collègues mais il ne porta plus jamais le maillot de l'Autriche.
Retraité en 2004, il a ensuite travaillé comme entraîneur-adjoint en Autriche et en Allemagne.
