Smart and gifted playmaker, super soft hands. Lanky and deceptively strong.
Good at seeing the ice. Veteran’s poise in tight spots.
Formed a dangerous line, dubbed the "Blue Line" together with Martin Procházka and Otakar Vejvoda.
Considered a bit of soft for the NHL and wasn’t drafted until rather late.
Didn’t make his NHL debut until he was 28.
Only played briefly in North America as his style was more suited for the European style of play.
Represented Czech Republic 197 times, scoring 48 goals.
Four time World Champion and Olympic Champion in 1998.
Patera also won the Czech, Swedish and Russian leagues. He retired in 2015. Went on to coach.
His daughter Dominika was a professional tennis player, reaching the rank of 784 in the world.
Patera was inducted into the Czech Hockey Hall of Fame.

Formait un trio redoutable, surnommé la « Ligne bleue », avec Martin Procházka et Otakar Vejvoda.
Considéré comme un peu léger pour la NHL, il fut repêché tardivement.
Il n'y fit ses débuts qu'à 28 ans.
Son passage en Amérique du Nord fut bref, son style étant plus adapté au jeu européen.
Il représenta la République tchèque à 197 reprises, marquant 48 buts.
Quadruple champion du monde et champion olympique en 1998.
Patera remporta également les championnats tchèque, suédois et russe. Il prit sa retraite en 2015 et devint ensuite entraîneur.
Sa fille, Dominika, était joueuse de tennis professionnelle et a atteint le 784e rang mondial.
Patera a été intronisé au Temple de la renommée du hockey tchèque.
