He immediately established himself as a reliable forward in the Finnish league, winning the rookie of the year award in 1972. The first player to captain both Tampere teams (Ilves & Tappara).
In 1983 he scored a goal after only five seconds into a league game (then a league record).
Represented Finland 162 times, scoring 62 points (34+28).
Scored 557 (270+287) career points in 573 games. Retired in 1987.
Inducted into the Finnish Hockey Hall of Fame.

Cet attaquant efficace s'est tout de suite senti chez lui chez les grands de l'élite finlandaise. Au point de gagner le trophée de débutant de l'année en 1972 pour, dans la foulée, participer aux championnats du monde. À 20 ans à peine ! Plus tard, il sera le premier joueur à avoir été capitaine des deux clubs de Tampere (Ilves et Tappara)
En 1983, il inscrivit un but au bout de cinq secondes de jeu. Il s'agissait alors d'un record en championnat de Finlande.
62 points (34+28) en 162 sélections internationales pour la Finlande.
557 points (270+287) en 573 matches de club.
Retraité en 1987. Intronisé parmi les Lions du hockey finlandais (Jääkiekkoleijona, numéro 90).
