Son of Aleksandr Barkov Sr who represented Russia in the 1990s.
Began playing ice hockey at the age of four. Grew up idolizing Teemu Selänne.
In October 2013 he became the youngest post expansion (1967) player to score a goal in the NHL. At the 2014 Winter Olympics he became the youngest Finnish winter Olympian ever.
Ideal size and strength for the center position at the NHL level. Very hardworking player who trained a lot at a young age.
Good at competing for every square inch of ice. A lot of poise and playmaking ability. Average in his physical play.
Voted the NHL's most underestimated player in a league players' poll in 2023.

Il a commencé le hockey à quatre ans et a grandi avec Teemu Selänne comme idole.
En octobre 2013 il est devenu le plus jeune joueur depuis l'expansion (1967) à marquer un but en NHL. En 2014 il est devenu le plus jeune Finlandais de l'histoire à participer aux Jeux olympiques d'hiver.
Sa taille et sa force sont idéales pour la position de centre au niveau NHL. Joueur très travailleur qui s'est beaucoup entraîné dès son jeune âge.
Bon pour lutter pour chaque centimètre carré de glace. Beaucoup de sang-froid et de créativité. Moyen dans le jeu physique.
Élu joueur le plus sous-estimé de NHL par un sondage auprès des hockeyeurs de la ligue en 2023.
