Older brother of Andreas Bernard.
At the age of four he began playing for SV Caldaro and then transferred to Ora at age 13.
In order to improve his skills he spent three years playing junior hockey in Germany for Rosenheim. Highly touted as a junior and virtually all the Italian league teams wanted to sign him.
Versatile player with the ability to play on all three forward positions.
Announced his retirement from national team at only 29 in April 2019 for family reasons.
As a captain, he is not a loud speaker and tries to keep a good atmosphere by being calm and open to dialogue.

Frère ainé d'Andreas Bernard.
À l'âge de quatre ans il a commencé à jouer pour le SV Caldaro puis il fut transféré à Ora à 13 ans.
Dans le but d'améliorer sa technique il a passé trois années juniors en Allemagne pour Rosenheim. Très côté en junior, pratiquement toutes les équipes du championnat italien souhaitaient le faire signer.
Joueur déroutant qui a la possibilité de jouer dans chacune des trois positions offensives.
Il a annoncé sa retraite internationale à seulement 29 ans en avril 2019 pour raisons familiales.
Comme capitaine, il hausse rarement le ton et essaie plutôt de rassurer et de pondérer l'équipe en dialoguant avec chacun.
