Consistent and reliable stay-at-home defenseman who learned to skate at the old Olympia in Detroit (Detroit Red Wings old home arena), where both his father and grandfather worked. Naturally Gordie Howe was his greatest influence growing up.
Aggressive in front of his own net where he often used his strength to clear the crease.
Always in tremendous physical shape and was among the best conditioned NHL players until his retirement in 2001.
A born again Christian. Worked with a sports ministry called Champions of Christ in Texas, reaching out to professional and college athletes. Served on the pastoral staff of Morning Star New York in Manhattan.

Défenseur "vissé à sa zone" fiable et constant qui a appris à patiner dans la vieille patinoire Olympia (ancien antre des Detroit Red Wings) où son père et son grand-père travaillaient. Tout naturellement Gordie Howe eut une grande influence sur lui quand il était jeune.
Agressif en face de sa propre cage où il utilisait souvent sa force pour dégager le passage.
Toujours dans une excellente condition physique, ce qui en fit l'un des joueurs les mieux préparés de la NHL.
Un chrétien "born again". Il travailla pour un ministère sportif appelé "Champions du Christ" au Texas, réunissant des athlètes professionnels et universitaires. Il œuvra pour l'équipe pastorale du Morning Star New York à Manhattan.
152 points (37+115) en 737 parties de saison régulière de NHL. Retraité en 2001.
