Older brother of Andrzej Chowaniec. League champion nine years in a row. Polish player of the year in 1974. Represented Poland 172 times (50 goals).
Technically skilled player. Released his shots quickly on the fly, when the goalie least expected it. Efficient at scoring goals by swooping in from behind the goal.
Played on a line with Leszek Tokarz and Józef Batkiewicz. Later with Walenty Zietara and Mieszyslaw Jaskierski. Scored circa 490 points (293 goals) in 446 league games. Played in Germany after 1982.
Retired in 1989 (one season in Nowy Targ).
Also called "Wojtek" and "Ciuńcio". Was running a furry business.

Frère aîné d'Andrzej Chowaniec. Champion neuf fois consécutives avec son Podhale favori, il fut élu joueur polonais de l'année en 1974. 172 sélections internationales (50 buts).
Joueur très à l'aise techniquement capable de déclencher ses tirs en un éclair, quand les gardiens s'y attendaient le moins. Avait une prédilection pour les buts marqués après un tour de cage.
Le long de sa grosse dizaine d'années avec l'équipe de Pologne, il fut d'abord aligné avec Leszek Tokarz et Józef Batkiewicz, ensuite avec Walenty Zietara et Mieszyslaw Jaskierski. En tout, il compte environ 490 points (293 buts) en 446 matches de championnat. Partit en Allemagne à la trentaine, revint en Pologne en 1988 pour une saison (avec Nowy Targ, bien sûr) et tira sa révérence.
On l'appelait aussi "Wojtek" et "Ciuńcio". S'occupa d'un commerce de fourrures.
