Spent one year in the QMJHL in Victoriaville. Left his hometown Innsbruck to join Salzburg at 21.
Good shot and strong will. Worked on his fitness to become a more allround player.
He can use his size (188 cm, 91 kg) to screen the goaltenders.
His brother Andreas is an ice hockey referee and officiated in Championship finals played by Mario, which irritated opposing fans.

Ce talent brut en junior a débuté en équipe d'Autriche A à 18 ans. Il a passé une saison en junior majeur à Victoriaville (2015/16) puis a quitté son club d'origine Innsbruck pour Salzbourg à 21 ans en 2017.
À son bon tir, il a ajouté une forte volonté pour travailler sa condition physique et devenir un joueur plus complet.
Il peut utiliser sa taille (188 cm, 91 kg) pour masquer les gardiens.
Son frère Andreas est arbitre et a officié dans des finales de championnat jouées par Mario, ce qui a valu des plaintes des supporters adverses par principe même s'il a toujours agi de manière impartiale.
