Lars' parents (Anders and Elisabeth) were physical education teachers who both practiced orienteering. Their four chidren did the same.
Lars started to play outdoor ice hockey with his three-year-older brother Martin's friends and was sent between the pipes as he didn't skate so well. So he played as a goaltender from the beginning when he joined his hometown club Avesta BK. Lars also practiced orienteering until he was 15.
In 2003 the family moved from Avesta to Mora so that twins Lars and Ida could enter a sport high school (ice hockey for him, orienteering and ski orienteering for her).
His brother Martin preferred running and skiing and took part in World championships both in orienteering and cross-country skiing. After two orienteering sprint bronze medals in 2007 and 2008 he was leading the 2008 relay World Championships when he jumped on a tree branch which entered 12 cm inside his thigh. The three runners behind him (Thierry Gueorgiou for France, Anders Nordberg for Norway and Michel Smola for Czech Republic) stopped to call for assistance and carried him into an ambulance. None of them got medals but they got a fair-play trophy.
Relaxed character off the ice and calm on the ice. Good positioning and reflexes. Average rebound control.
2016 European champion with Frölunda. He also was voted SHL goaltender of the year and became Swedish champion but was on the bench during the final series because he was injured. Russian champion 2019 with CSKA Moscow, but he was only Sorokin backup during playoffs.
Liked Beef Stroganoff in Russia and often cooked it in Sweden for his three children.

Ses parents (Anders and Elisabeth) étaient des professeurs d'éducation physique ayant pratiqué la course d'orientation, comme leurs quatre enfants.
Lars a commencé le hockey en extérieur en suivant son frère aîné de trois ans, Martin, et ses amis. Il fut envoyé dans les cages parce qu'il patinait moins bien. En s'inscrivant en club à Avesta, il choisit dès le début le poste de gardien. Lars a aussi pratiqué le football, l'athlétisme et la course d'orientation.
À 15 ans, en 2003, il s'est spécialisé dans le hockey sur glace quand la famille a déménagé d'Avesta à Mora pour qu'il puisse intégrer un lycée sports-études (option hockey) tout comme sa sœur jumelle Ida (option course d'orientation).
Martin, qui préférait courir et skier, a pris part aux championnats du monde en course d'orientation puis en ski de fond. Après deux médailles de bronze en sprint aux championnats du monde d'orientation 2007 et 2008, il était en tête de la course de relais des Mondiaux 2008 quand il sauta sur une branche d'arbre qui entra dans sa cuisse sur 12 cm. Les trois orienteurs qui le suivaient (Thierry Gueorgiou pour la France, Anders Nordberg pour la Norvège et Michel Smola pour la République tchèque) s'arrêtèrent alors pour appeler les secours et le porter hors de la forêt vers l'ambulance. Ils n'eurent donc aucune médaille mais reçurent un trophée du fair-play.
Caractère tranquille en dehors de la glace, Lars est calme devant les filets. Bien positionné, il a de bons réflexes mais un contrôle des rebonds moyen.
Champion d'Europe 2016 avec Frölunda, il est ensuite élu gardien de l'année en SHL et devient champion de Suède mais il est sur le banc en finale parce qu'il est blessé. Quand il est champion de Russie 2019 avec le CSKA Moscou, il n'est que la doublure d'Ilya Sorokin en playoffs.
Il a ramené de Russie son goût du boeuf Stroganoff, la recette assez facile à faire qu'il aime cuisiner pour ses trois enfants.
