Often used as a defensive forward with his size (190 cm) and poise. Gritty and skilled. Very good under pressure.
Served as the captain of Avangard Omsk as a 23-year old in 2014/15. He got a concussion after a scary injury during the playoffs, then Avangard only offered him half his previous salary.
Though undrafted in the NHL, he decided to go to North America by signing with the New Jersey Devils. They used him during almost two years before trading him to Toronto, who let him play only in the AHL.
He came back to Russia with SKA St. Petersburg, whose vice-president Roman Rotenberg was the only club manager to call him during his injury.
World junior champion 2011. World champion 2014. Olympic champion 2018. Won the Gagarin Cup as KHL champion 2019 with CSKA Moscow as a fourth-line player.

Si résistant à l'enjeu que l'Avangard Omsk lui confia le capitanat à 23 ans à peine en 2014/15. Mais quand il subit une commotion cérébrale après une blessure effrayante en play-offs, l'Avangard ne lui proposa qu'un contrat avec un salaire divisé par deux.
Bien que non drafté en NHL, il signa alors pour les Devils du New Jersey. Ceux-ci l'utilisèrent pendant près de saisons avant de l'échanger en février 2017 à Toronto, où on ne le fit jouer qu'en AHL.
Il revint alors en Russie pour le SKA Saint-Pétersbourg, dont le vice-président Roman Rotenberg avait été le seul dirigeant à l'appeler l'été de sa blessure.
Champion du monde 2011 des moins de 20 ans. Champion du monde 2014. Champion olympique 2018. Il remporta la Coupe Gagarine de champion KHL 2019 sur la quatrième ligne du CSKA Moscou.
