He was a commendably solid player. Excellent skater with world class speed. His fine speed also made him dangerous as a penalty killer. Soft hands and a pretty good playmaker. Not the strongest in the corners and could lose the battles against bigger opponents.
After two games in the 1992 Olympic tournament he was called up to first line along Bykov and Khomutov and found good chemistry with his offensive flair. After the final, he bought a bottle of cognac to celebrate with the team both the gold meedal and the birth of his daughter.
During his rookie season in the NHL he got to play a lot alongside Aleksandr Mogilny and Pat Lafontaine.
Retired in 1999. Became an NHL scout for the Sabres.

Ailier fiable, excellent patineur avec une vitesse de classe mondiale. Précieux en infériorité numérique par sa rapidité. De belles mains et une bonne capacité de créateur. Pas le plus fort dans les coins, il pouvait y peiner face à des défenseurs costauds.
Après deux rencontres du tournoi olympique de 1992 il fut appelé sur la première ligne aux côtés de Bykov et Khomutov et trouva une bonne entente immédiate grâce à son sens du jeu offensif. Après la finale, il acheta une bouteille de cognac et l'offrit à l'équipe pour célébrer à la fois la médaille d'or et la naissance de sa fille.
Lors de sa première saison en NHL, il fut associé à d'autres joueurs de grand talent, Aleksandr Mogilny et Pat Lafontaine.
Devenu dépisteur pour les Sabres de Buffalo après sa retraite en 1999.
Introduit au Hall of Fame du hockey russe.
152 points marqués (64+88) en 152 parties de saison régulière de NHL.
