Agile and very quick goaltender. Slight frame and not covering a lot of the net. Kilpeläinen was drafted by Dallas Stars in the NHL 2003. He never played in the NHL. Spent one season of junior hockey in Canada with the Peterborough Petes in 2004/05.
Played the majority of his career in Finland, except for short stints in Switzerland (Zoug) and Sweden (Örebro).

Gardien agile et vif dont le gabarit menu l'empêche de couvrir beaucoup de son but, un handicap au plus haut niveau. Drafté par les Dallas Stars en 2003, il ne jouera jamais en NHL. A passé la saison 2004-2005 en Amérique du Nord avec les Peterborough Petes (ligue junior canadienne) mais c'est tout.
La majeure partie de sa carrière s'est déroulée en championnat finlandais si on excepte des passages par la Suisse (Zoug) et la Suède (Örebro).
