He grew up in a hockey environment as his father Bent played almost two decades for Vojens IK.
His father also represented Denmark on the national team in several World Championships.
Michael Madsen started out with Vojens like his father but also played for six other Danish clubs.
In 1996/97 he played a while with Bracebridge Bears in the OHA to get valuable experience.
He also spent a brief time playing in Germany and Finland.
Madsen went out on top by winning two Danish league titles in a row before retiring in 2014.
He often backed up Peter Hirsch on the national team.

Il a grandi dans un environnement hockey car son père Bent joua près de deux décennies au Vojens IK.
Son père fut également international danois et joua plusieurs Mondiaux de divisions inférieures.
Michael Madsen débuta à Vojens comme son père mais joua également dans six autres clubs danois.
En 1996/97 il joua un moment chez les Bears de Bracebridge en OHA pour acquérir de l'expérience.
Il joua aussi brièvement en Allemagne et en Finlande.
Madsen arrêta au sommet puisqu'il remporta deux titres de champion juste avant sa retraite en 2014.
Il fut souvent la doublure de Peter Hirsch en sélection.
