Older brother of Paul Miller. His father used to coach youth hockey in Billerica, MA.
Bob Miller was born in Medford but grew up in Billerica where he learned to play hockey.
He had a very good college career, winning several awards.
Very fast skater and always quick at forechecking and shadowing his opponents.
Developed into a strong defensive player and penalty killer.
Played a year in Finland (Kärpät 1983/84) and two years in Sierre, Switzerland (1985/86 as a player and 1986/87 when he became head coach during the season). He also briefly coached Visp.

Bob Miller est né à Medford mais il a grandi à Billerica où il a appris le hockey.
Il connut une très bonne carrière universitaire, remportant plusieurs trophées.
Patineur très rapide et très vif à l'échec-avant qui savait marquer à la culotte ses adversaires.
Il s'est développé comme un solide joueur défensif, notamment en infériorité numérique.
Il a joué un an en Finlande (avec les Kärpät en 1983/84) et deux ans en Suisse à Sierre (1985/86 comme joueur puis 1986/87 où il passa sur le banc). Il entraîna peu après une autre équipe valaisanne, Viège.
194 points (75+119) en 404 parties de saison régulière dans la NHL.
