Disciplined, attentative and smooth blueliner.
Played one season of junior hockey in Canada (WHL).
Spent the bulk of his playing career in Bolzano (14 seasons) and Milan (one season). Won eight league titles.
Longtime captain of the Italian national team, making his debut on March 5, 1986. Scored his first goal on Sept. 5, 1986 vs China.
Played a total of 193 games for Italy, scoring 42 points (8+32). Great leader. Retired in 1998.
Went into the real estate business, joining his brother Karl, who headed the Italian branch of Babcock & Brown, an Australian financial group active in financial advisory, asset management, investment banking, real estate, infrastructure and structured finance. Also Vice-President of HC Bolzano.
In 2010 he embarked on a political career, and was a center-right candidate for mayor of Bolzano.
In 2011 he was involved in an investigation of alleged cases as a client of child prostitution, known as "Rubygate Bolzanino". The case was later dismissed.

Il pratiqua une saison en junior au Canada (en WHL).
Il a passé l'immense majorité de sa carrière au club de Bolzano (14 saisons), et un passage à Milan (une saison). Huit fois champion d'Italie.
Longtemps capitaine en sélection, où il fit ses débuts le 5 mars 1986. Premier but le 5 septembre 1986 contre la Chine.
Totalise 193 sélections avec l'Italie, et 42 points (8+32). Un grand leader, retraité en 1998.
Il s'est lancé dans l'immobilier en rejoignant son frère Karl, qui dirigeait la branche italienne de Babcock & Brown, un groupe financier australien de conseil financier, gestion d'actifs, banque d'investissement, l'immobilier et l'infrastructure et les financements structurés.
Robert fut également vice-président du HC Bolzano.
En 2010 il se lança dans une carrière politique, en tant que candidat de centre-droit à la mairie de Bolzano.
En 2011 il fut impliqué dans une enquête sur des cas présumés de prostitution de mineurs, connu sous le nom de "Rubygate Bolzanino". L'affaire a ensuite été classée.
