Youngest of a family of sixteen children.
Very highly touted as a junior for being an all-rounder. Seen as pretty much the complete package.
Excellent checker and skater. Big aggressive two-way player who played with true grit.
Decent penalty killer if needed. Did not back down from anyone and could play dirty at times.
At the 1977 World Championships, Paiement attacked Swedish player Lars-Erik Ericsson (who received a stick in the eye), as well as Russian players Shadrin, Yakushev and Babinov.
A year later in the NHL, Paiement attacked Detroit Red Wings diminutive player Dennis Polonich with his stick, striking Polonich across the face with a two-handed slash, resulting in serious injuries. Paiement was given a 15 game suspension. Polonich later sued Paiement and was awarded a settlement of $850,000 in 1982.
Retired in 1988 and was the last active player who had played for the Kansas City Scouts.

Très coté en junior car vu comme le prototype du joueur complet. Excellent en défense et en patinage.
Gros gabarit (185 cm, 95 kg), très combatif sur toute la glace, même en infériorité numérique si besoin.
Agressif, il ne reculait devant personne et pouvait parfois jouer de manière déloyale.
Lors des Championnats du monde 1977, Paiement a attaqué le Suédois Lars-Erik Ericsson (qui a reçu un coup de crosse dans l'œil), ainsi que les Russes Shadrin, Yakushev et Babinov.
Un an plus tard, dans la NHL, Paiement a agressé Dennis Polonich des Red Wings de Détroit, le frappant au visage d'un coup de crosse à deux mains, lui causant de graves blessures. Paiement a été suspendu pour 15 rencontres. Polonich a ensuite poursuivi Paiement en justice, et a obtenu une indemnité de 850 000 dollars en 1982.
Paiement a pris sa retraite en 1988 et a été le dernier joueur actif à avoir joué pour les Scouts de Kansas City.
814 points (356+458) en 946 parties de saison régulière dans la NHL.
