He debuted ice hockey on natural ice during winters in Petropavlovsk, a northern Kazakh town close to Russian border. When he was 13, his father sent him to the capital Astana to get better training.
Big frame (194 cm, 89 kg) and powerful slapshot. Named Victor Hedman as his favourite player.
Best defenceman in the Kazakhstan league in 2019/20.
When he played his first World Championships with Kazakhstan he had only played one game in the KHL (during the playoffs). But after training camp next summer Barys coach Andrei Skabelka trusted him to play on first pair and he had a major breakthrough.

Il a commencé le hockey sur une glace naturelle pendant les hivers glaciaux de Petropavlovsk, ville du nord du Kazakhstan proche de la frontière russe. À 13 ans, son père l'a envoyé dans la capitale Astana pour qu'il ait de meilleures conditions d'entraînement.

Quand il a débuté en championnat du monde avec le Kazakhstan il n'avait joué qu'un match de KHL (lors des récents playoffs). Mais après le camp d'entraînement de l'été suivant, l'entraîneur du Barys, Andrei Skabelka, lui a fait confiance en le plaçant tout de suite en première paire, ce qui en fit la révélation de l'équipe.
