Father of Alexander Cijan. Began playing ice hockey at the age of seven.
As a young player he admired Russian ace Sergei Makarov and wore the same jersey number (24) as his idol. Had good chemistry together with players like Ed Lebler and Günther Koren. Nine time Austrian league champion. Emerged as one of the most talented Austrian players in the 1980s. Good leadership qualities. Captained KAC Klagenfurt for almost a decade.
Played a total of 21 seasons in the Austrian league, scoring 962 (382+580) career points in 727 games. Retired in 1997.

Père d'Alexander Cijan. Commence le hockey sur glace à sept ans.
Son modèle fut Sergei Makarov dont il prit le numéro de maillot (24). En sélection, s'entendait bien avec Ed Lebler et Günther Koren. Neuf fois champion d'Autriche, il fut une des figures de proue du hockey sur glace autrichien des années 1980. Tint le "C" à Klagenfurt pendant une dizaine de saisons.
En tout, il en disputa 21 en championnat d'Autriche, principalement au KAC mais avec des passages par Graz et Zell am See. 962 points (382+580) en 727 matches. Prit sa retraite en 1997.
