His parents left Chechen small town Gekhi and settled in Kazakhstan shortly before the war in Chechenia.
Started ice hockey at 5 in Astana. His first coach was Vladimir Zykin. Best defenceman in the Under 10 and Under 11 national leagues.
The Colorado Rampage convinced him to move to the USA at 15. He lived in a teammate's family and spent three years in Colorado Springs and two years in the USHL before coming home.
Thanks to his knowledge of the English language he served as unofficial translator between the referees and his coach during 2023 World Championships and also communicated with international press.
He doesn't overuse his big body (193 cm, 92 kg) and tries to keep good positioning.
Captained Kazakhstan (relegated) during 2020 World junior championships.

Ses parents ont quitté le village tchétchène de Gekhi pour le Kazakhstan peu avant le début de la guerre en Tchétchénie.
Il a commencé le hockey à 5 ans, avec comme premier entraîneur Vladimir Zykin, et était le meilleur défenseur de sa génération à 9 ans et à 10 ans.
Les Colorado Rampage le convainquent de venir à 15 ans aux États-Unis, où il est accueilli dans la famille d'un coéquipier. Il passe trois ans à Colorado Springs, puis deux années juniors en USHL avant de rentrer au pays.
Cette adolescence américaine a servi sa maîtrise de l'anglais : quand il a joué son premier championnat du monde en 2023, c'est lui qui servait de traducteur entre son entraîneur et les arbitres.
Défenseur qui n'abuse pas de son grand gabarit (193 cm, 92 kg) et s'attache à rester bien positionné.
