Highly touted prospect while playing junior hockey in Calgary. Good passes. Hard shot from the blueline.
Won a spot on the Los Angeles Kings team in 1983 and made his NHL debut on October 5, 1983 vs Minnesota.
His Canadian father had German roots and had been expelled out of Yugoslavia. It enabled his hockey playing sons Mike and Robert to get German citizenship as refugees and to have their career there.
Moved to West Germany in 1986 and started out in their second league during two years (the first one as a foreigner).
Scored Schwenningen first semi-final-clinching goal in 1990 when the opponent stopped playing by mistake. Bundesliga's best defenseman in 1991/92.
Got a shoulder injury after a dangerous boarding by Kevin Grant (Rosenheim) in October 1997 and had to leave Japan a few days before Nagano Olympic Games because he wasn't healed. He retired shortly after.

Espoir très coté lorsqu'il jouait au hockey junior à Calgary. Bon passeur et tireur puissant depuis la ligne bleue.
Il a obtenu un strapontin chez les Los Angeles Kings en 1983 et a débuté en NHL le 5 octobre 1983 contre Minnesota (1 assist en 6 parties).
Son père canadien d'origine allemande avait été chassé de Yougoslavie, ce qui a permis aux deux fils hockeyeurs (Mike et Robert) d'obtenir la nationalité allemande en tant que réfugiés et de faire carrière en Allemagne.
Mike a commencé par deux saisons en deuxième division (la première comme étranger) de 1986 à 1988.
Il a qualifié Schwenningen pour la première demi-finale de son histoire par son but décisif en play-offs 1990 face à un adversaire ayant cessé un instant de jouer par erreur. Meilleur défenseur de la Bundesliga 1991/92.
Blessé à l'épaule par une dangereuse charge contre la bande de Kevin Grant (Rosenheim) en octobre 1997, il doit déclarer forfait juste avant les Jeux olympiques de Nagano car il n'est pas guéri et prend sa retraite peu de temps après.
