Nicknamed "Gummi Jansen" (Rubber Jansen) for his flexibility and tremendous reflexes. Calm and poised with a good anticipation for the game.
Won the German junior championships with Krefeld in 1948 and 1949. Good leadership qualities and captained Krefeld already as a 20-year old in 1951.
He was an optician but had sight problems when playing in natural light.
Represented West Germany 72 times. Inducted into the German Hockey Hall of Fame.
His son took over his optic shop in Krefeld.

Surnommé "Gummi Jansen" ("Jansen de caoutchouc") pour sa souplesse et ses réflexes étonnants. Pour autant, c'est un gardien calme et réfléchi. Il anticipe bien le jeu et sort promptement de sa cage pour devancer l'attaquant.
Champion d'Allemagne juniors avec Krefeld en 1948 et 1949, il devenait capitaine du KEV dès ses vingt ans.
Opticien dans le civil, il a pourtant des problèmes de vision quand il doit jouer en lumière naturelle.
72 sélections internationales.
Introduit au Hall of Fame du hockey allemand.
Son fils lui a succédé à la tête de sa boutique d'optique à Krefeld.
