Philipp Kurashev

Kurashev, Philipp

Position : C

12-10-1999 Davos, SUI

Youth team / club formateur : SC Bern

Son of former Russian hockey player Konstantin Kurashev who once represented Soviet Union as a junior and who had a long playing and coaching career.
Philipp Kurashev was born in Davos, Switzerland while his father was assistant coach. He grew up around the rink and from a young age.
His whole family is Russian. He grew up speaking Russian and dreamed of playing for Sbornaya when he was young.
Old school Soviet style in terms of his tremendous skating ability. Dynamic forward. Very speedy and with the ability to handle the puck at top speed. Good at weaving in and out of traffic making him elusive and difficult to stop. Great first step and acceleration. Good at protecting the puck. Average defensively without the puck, sometimes getting out of position. Drew comparisons to Evgeny Kuznetsov as a junior.
Good shot release but below average shot selection, which prevents him from being a goalscorer.
He was Nico Hischier winger with Bern U17. Afterwards he played three years of junior hockey in the QMJHL.
