Son of Gary McMonagle who was drafted in the NHL 1977 by St.Louis Blues.
Of Italian heritage from his mother’s side and of Irish heritage from his father’s side.
Born and grew up in Oakville, Ontario and was a big fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Played with number 13 during his early years, a lucky number in his family.
He has the number tattooed on his forearm in roman letters.
Started out as a forward and was a high scorer as a pee wee and bantam player.
In four consecutive seasons he scored a total of 688 points (212, 198, 178 and 100).
McMonagle later switched to defense. Smooth skater. Often used to quarterback power plays. Good leadership qualities.
Came to Europe in 2011. Played in Sweden, Italy, Germany, Czech Republic, Austria and Norway.
His last name is spelled like "MicMonagel" and not "MacMonagel".
