Known for his ability to focus entirely on the games he played. His concentration and composure was great.
Together with Josef Mikoláš he was the first Czechoslovakian goaltender to wear a mask, when he brought a fiberglass mask with him from Canada in 1960.
Played for Dynamo (Tesla) Pardubice between 1950-57 and was the teams first goaltender at the age of 17.
He then did his military service in Brno and stayed there, playing for RH (ZKL and Zetor) Brno between 1957-74. In Brno he managed to win the league title eight times.
Best goaltender at the 1958 World Championships.
He finished his playing career in TJ Prostějov 1974-75. He later coached teams in Czechoslovakia and Italy.
Inducted into the Czech Hockey Hall of Fame.
