A Tatar. His ancestral roots came from Nizhny Novgorod and the Tatars in the Sergach region.
His father was a farmer who moved to Moscow in 1952 to work in a factory there.
His mother was from Moscow and worked in a knitting factory and then as a janitor.
Bilyaletdinov was a good and strong skater with good lateral movements. Great competitor and a hard bodychecker. Wellrounded defenseman.
Was creatively limited and prefered to make simple plays. More of a destructive type of defenseman who was better at neutralizing the opponents than making things happen on his own.
Played 596 league games, scoring 158 points (68+90). Represented Soviet Union 244 times (21 goals).
Became a hockey coach after his retirement and was the first Russian coach to work in the NHL. Was with the Winnipeg Jets, Phoenix Coyotes and Chicago Blackhawks.
Defensive-minded coach who always implemented a 1-4 system, asking one of the wingers to backcheck low. Five-time Russian champion as a coach (2000, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2018). Coached the Russian national team with ups (2012 WC win) and downs (Sochi Olympic Games).

Tatar. Ses racines venaient de Nijni Novgorod et de la région de Sergach pour la partie tatare.
Son père était un fermier parti à Moscou en 1952 pour y travailler dans une usine.
Sa mère était de Moscou et travaillait dans une usine de tricot puis comme concierge.
Bilyaletdinov était un patineur doué et solide avec de bons mouvements latéraux. Grand compétiteur et dur au marquage. Défenseur sûr.
Il était limité en termes de créativité et préférait jouait simple. Plus qu'un défenseur "destructeur", il était meilleur pour neutraliser l'adversaire que d'agir une fois qu'il porterait le jeu.
Il a joué 596 matchs de championnat, inscrivant 158 points (68+90). 244 sélections avec l'URSS (21 buts).
Après sa retraite il devint entraîneur et fut même le premier Soviétique à coacher en NHL. Il fut assistant pour les Jets de Winnipeg, les Coyotes de Phoenix et les Blackhawks de Chicago.
Entraîneur à vocation défensive qui a toujours prôné un système en 1-4, demandant à un des ailiers de se replier très bas. Cinq fois champion de Russie comme coach (2000, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2018). Sélectionneur national de la Sbornaïa avec des hauts (titre mondial 2012) et des bas (Jeux olympiques de Sotchi).
