His father was a coach and his five-year-older brother Klemen played ice hockey for Slovenia junior national teams.
Jan Drozg went to Sweden at 16 and played two years in Leksand before heading to North America.
Very skilled hands. Dangerous right-handed shot from the left wing. Good skater with great straight-ahead speed.
His lanky frame (188 cm, 79 kg) disadvantaged him defensively and in the corners.
Chinese club Kunlun retained his KHL rights but had no interest in him after their headquarters (and name) changed. European clubs were not eager to take a player who had signed KHL juster after Russia invaded Ukraine. Jan Drozg remained unemployed until December and eventually came back to Slovenia with Olimpija Ljubljana.

Son père était entraîneur et son frère aîné Klemen, plus âgé de cinq ans, a joué pour les équipes juniors de Slovénie.
Jan Drozg est parti en Suède à 16 ans et a joué deux années juniors à Leksand avant d'aller en Amérique du Nord.
Mains très habiles. Son tir de la droite est très dangereux depuis son aile gauche. Bon patineur, très rapide en ligne droite.
Son gabarit longiligne (188 cm, 79 kg) le désavantage défensivement, notamment dans les coins.
Le club chinois Kunlun a conservé ses droits pour la KHL mais ne comptait plus sur lui après avoir changé de dirigeants (et de nom) en 2026. Les clubs européens étient réticents à engager un joueur ayant signé en KHL juste après l'invasion de l'Ukraine par la Russie. C'est pourquoi Jan Drozg est resté au chômage jusqu'en décembre avant de revenir jouer en Slovénie avec l'Olimpija Ljubljana.
