When he grew up his favourite team was the Edmonton Oilers, the same team where he would spend his initial years in the NHL. His childhood idol was Martin St. Louis.
Outstanding goal-scoring instincts and a nose for the net, but also good at setting up his teammates. Keen awareness on the ice at all time. Hard working player with an accurate shot.
Lack of size hurt his effectiveness in the corners when battling for pucks.
Needed improvement on his defensive game as a youngster.
CHL Player of the Year in 2010 and MVP of the World Junior Championships the same year.

Buteur à l'instinct exceptionnel, mais également capable de servir ses partenaires. Il a une bonne conscience du jeu à tout moment. Joueur très travailleur avec un tir de précis.
Son manque de gabarit le handicape dans les coins quand il s'agit de batailler pour le palet.
Il a dû améliorer son jeu défensif dans ses jeunes années.
Joueur de l'année dans le Junior Majeur canadien et meilleur joueur des championnats du monde juniors en 2010.
