Older brother of Jack Hughes and Luke Hughes. Catholic father Jim was an ice hockey player and coach and Jewish mother Ellen Weinberg-Hughes played for USA in 1992 World Women Championships.
Exceptional skater with great mobility and offensive awareness. Always thriving whenever having the puck on his stick.
Ability to control the game from the back end. Very dangerous as a power-play quarterback.
A bit undersized for the blueline position at the NHL level. Tendency to get out of position when pinching high.
Won Norris Trophy (NHL best defenceman) in 2024.

Patineur exceptionnel avec beaucoup de mobilité et de vision offensive. Toujours florissant quand il a le palet dans sa crosse.
Capable de contrôler le jeu depuis sa zone. Très dangereux quand il organise le jeu en supériorité numérique.
Un peu petit pour un défenseur de NHL (178 cm, 81 kg). Quand il monte haut il peut se mettre hors de position.
Trophée Norris de meilleur défenseur de NHL en 2024.
