Karachun, Viktor Iosifovich
Position : C
12-08-1968 Minsk, URS (BLR)
11-08-2004 Biberach, GER
Youth team / club formateur : Yunost Minsk
Very down to earth and humble person who always downplayed his own accomplishments, always putting the team ahead of himself. Though he had technical skills he was not the one who led the attacks but rather followed in the wake of the first attacking waves.
In 1995 he was playing for Polish club Sosnowiec when the arena speaker announced the birth of his child. Unfortunately he would never see this son, Alexander, become a professional hockey player.
In 2001 there were some irregularities found in his blood and Viktor was diagnosed with cancer. He had two operations at the Katharinen Hospital in Stuttgart and everything seemed to have gone well. The doctors said that normally 70 % of the patients die during the span of the operation and a short time thereafter, but Viktor was a fighter and fought valiantly against the disease. The doctors couldn’t believe that he was taking up competitive sports again and marveled at his determination.
Unfortunately the cancer recurred again and he passed away at his home, 10:20 AM in Biberach, Germany, one day before his 36th birthday.
