Father of Christoph König and brother of Walter König. He made his league debut as a 16-year old and went on to win nine league titles with KAC Klagenfurt. Scored 940 points (510+430) in 664 league games.
Represented Austria 158 times, and retired as the all-time leader with 183 points (105+78). Was voted as the best forward at the 1982 Pool B World Championshis. Retired in 1992.
