Small two-way center with good skating abilities. Excellent penalty killer. Good leadership qualities and captained three different teams over the years. His lack of size wiped out any chances of playing in the NHL. Unexpected world champion 2010.
His older brother Martin Koukal is a four time Olympian (cross-country skier), who won an Olympic gold and was a World Champion.
Became ice hockey expert for Czech television in 2023.

Centre de l'ombre, bon patineur, précieux en infériorité numérique. Trop petit pour la NHL, il s'est construit une belle carrière en Europe de l'est et aura été capitaine de trois des clubs par lesquels il est passé. Champion du monde en 2010, l'année où personne n'attendait les Tchèques.
Son frère aîné Martin, skieur de fond, a remporté une médaille d'or olympique (en quatre participations en JO) et un titre de champion du monde dans sa discipline.
Devenu commentateur de hockey pour la télévision tchèque aux championnats du monde 2023.
