His mother was a skier, but Connor chose ice hockey, which was his father's sport in high school.
McDavid first skated at age three, and was playing hockey the next year. He played against older players throughout his junior career. Mature beyond his years as a junior.
Emerged as the most talented and talked about junior since Sidney Crosby. He was granted "Exceptional Player" status as a junior, which permitted McDavid to play in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) a year earlier than would otherwise be permissible for a player his age. He was only the third player to receive that status, after John Tavares and Aaron Ekblad.
Outstanding talent with tremendous skating ability and awesome offensive awareness.
He is not only the fastest skater but also able to make big plays at top speed.
Won gold medals at the Under 18 World Championships (2013), the Under 20 World Championships (2015) and the World Championships (2016).
In 2021 he became the second player in history - after 1982 Wayne Gretzky - to be voted unamimously as the NHL season MVP.

Sa mère skieuse aurait voulu qu'il suive sa voie, mais il a choisi le sport de son père au lycée, le hockey sur glace. McDavid a commencé à patiner à 3 ans, et à jouer au hockey à 4 ans. Doté d'une maturité précoce, il a affronté des adversaires plus âgés durant toutes ses années juniors, où il a été entraîné cinq ans par son père Brian.
Junior le plus talentueux et médiatique depuis Sidney Crosby. On lui conféra le statut de "joueur exceptionnel" en junior pour lui permettre de rejoindre l'Ontario Hockey League (OHL) une année avant l'âge requis. Ce fut le troisième homme à recevoir ce statut, après John Tavares et Aaron Ekblad.
Un talent exceptionnel avec d'incroyables capaités de patinage et un esprit offensif remarquable.
C'est non seulement le hockeyeur le plus rapide, mais il est aussi capable de produire de grandes actions à pleine vitesse.
Médaille d'or aux Mondiaux des moins de 18 ans (2013), des moins de 20 ans (2015), puis aux Championnats du monde seniors (2016).
En 2021, il est le deuxième joueur - après Gretzky en 1982 - à être élu unanimement comme le meilleur joueur de la saison NHL (trophée Hart).
