Allround and hardworking player who spent his entire youth and senior career in Vålerenga IF. In 2003 he could have gone to North America when two CHL teams offered him a pro contract but his Canadian agent was unavailable.
Eight-time Norwegian champion (1998, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009).
Hit by a puck in the knee during a game against Italy in Oslo. He had surgery on the knee and doctors told him that he basically would need to replace it, as it was badly damaged from previous knee injuries.
He tried to play through the pain the next season but eventually officially announced his retirement on January 15, 2010.
Became a coach for Vålerenga IF youth teams. Coached his son Michael Brandsegg-Nygård when he was 8 to 12.

Joueur complet et travailleur qui a joué pour Vålerenga de sa première licence à sa retraite. En 2003 il aurait pu aller en Amérique du Nord quand deux équipes de CHL lui ont proposé un contrat professionnel mais son agent canadien ne répondait plus.
Huit fois champion de Norvège (1998, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009).
Il visait le record de matches pour le VIF de Jon Magne Karlstad mais le destin en a décidé autrement.
Atteint au genou par un palet lors d'un match contre l'Italie, dans le Jordal Amfi d'Oslo où il a passé toute sa carrière. Il a été opéré et le médecin de l'équipe nationale Ole Fosse lui a dit que son genou méchamment endommagé devrait probablement être remplacé avant ses 50 ans.
Il a essayé de rejouer malgré la douleur la saison suivante mais a officiellement annoncé sa retraite le 15 janvier 2010.
Devenu entraîneur dans les équipes juniors de Vålerenga, et dans les plus petites catégories quand il a accompagné son fils cadet Michael Brandsegg-Nygård de 8 à 12 ans.
