Began playing ice hockey at the age of seven with schoolmates. Also played handball (second division).
Physically big player. Strong on the puck and technically good. Combined size, strength and smarts.
Olympic champion in 1998 and three-time world champion. He got his first gold medal on a bed in hospital in 1996 because he got appendicitis before the final game.
Voted as the best Czech player in 2001.
Tried his luck in the NHL when he was 33 but had difficulties adapting to the league. Returned back to the Czech Republic after one season.
Scored more than 1000 points, almost one point per game, during his long playing career.
Became a majority shareholder in HC Olomouc 2006, the same club he continued playing for. Announced his retirement on April 22, 2013. Became a coach.
Inducted into the Czech Hockey Hall of Fame.

Il a commencé le hockey sur glace à 7 ans avec des camarades de classe. Il a aussi joué au handball en deuxième division.
Fort avec le palet et bon techniquement. Il combinait la taille, la force et l'intelligence.
Champion olympique en 1998 et triple champion du monde. Il a reçu la première de ces médailles d'or sur un lit d'hôpital en 1996 parce qu'il a manqué la finale en raison d'une appendicite.
Crosse d'or (Zlatá hokejka) de meilleur joueur tchèque en 2001.
Il a tenté sa chance en NHL à 33 ans mais a connu des difficultés d'adaptation. Il est rentré au pays après une saison.

Devenu en 2006 actionnaire majoritaire du HC Olomouc, le club pour lequel il continuait de jouer. Il a annoncé sa retraite le 22 avril 2013 pour devenir entraîneur.
Membre du Hall of Fame du hockey tchèque.
