Began playing ice hockey at age eight. Inspired to become a goalie after he got cut from his peewee hockey team.
Hockey hero growing up was Grant Fuhr. Edmonton Oilers was his favorite team.
Fluent in English, French and Italian.
Great combination of size, quickness and command of the butterfly style. Ability to steal games for his teams. Confident and even cocky at times (in a good way). Square to shooters, and playing big in the net.
Tendency to flop around a lot, including a bad habit of going down on his belly.
Lapses in concentration from time to time. Not a very good puck-handler. Weakness high on his glove hand. Sometimes mentally affected by bad games.
First goaltender named captain of an NHL team since Bill Durnan in 1947/48.

Ayant commencé le hockey à 8 ans, il a décidé de devenir gardien après avoir été écarté de son équipe pee-wee à un jeune âge.
Son idole d'enfance était Grant Fuhr, et son équipe préférée, les Oilers d'Edmonton.
Il parle couramment anglais, français et italien.
Excellente combinaison du gabarit, de rapidité et de maîtrise du style papillon. Une aptitude à voler des matchs. Confiant et même parfois un peu arrogant (dans le bon sens du terme). Il défiait les lanceurs et imposait son physique dans la cage.
Une tendance à plonger un peu, notamment une mauvaise habitude de se coucher à plat ventre. Quelques défauts de concentration de temps en temps. Pas très bon dans le contrôle de la rondelle. Une faiblesse au-dessus de sa mitaine. Parfois mentalement affecté par des mauvais matchs.
Premier gardien à avoir été désigné capitaine d'une équipe NHL depuis Bill Durnan en 1947/48.
Il a annoncé sa retraite le 26 juin 2019.
