Pretty good sized goalie with decent physical attributes. Technically sound. Inconsistent in his younger years.
He was never drafted in the NHL but signed a two-year entry-level contract with the Winnipeg Jets in April 2013.
His parents worked in media and publishing and Juho studied in the same field. He took a student lease to join University of Michigan in 2010 and paid it back in 2013 with his bonus signing with the Winnipeg Jets (though he never was drafted). Spent three years within their organization, as an AHL backup goalie or an ECHL starting goaltender.
Olkinuora returned back to Finland in 2016 and started making a name for himself by winning CHL 2017/18 for JYP with a shutout in the final. His excellent 2019 playoffs in Liiga paved his way to national team (and to the KHL).
Made his debut on the national team at the 2019 World Championships against Great Britain (5-0), saving all 12 shots for a shutout.
Won two gold medals in 2022. During the Olympics he was only a backup because he was quarantined in his room with a slight fever though he had no symptoms. Three months later he was World Championships MVP.

Gardien de bonne taille avec de bonnes aptitudes physiques et une bonne technique, mais jugé inconstant dans sa jeunesse.
Ses parents travaillent dans les médias et l'édition, c'est aussi le domaine qu'il a étudié. Entré sans bourse à l'Université de Michigan en 2010, il a contracté un prêt étudiant d'environ 40 000 euros, qu'il a remboursé en 2013 par sa prime de signature avec les Winnipeg Jets (sans jamais avoir été drafté). Il a passé trois ans dans leur organisation, alternant entre second gardien en AHL et titulaire en ECHL.
Il n'avait jamais été international junior et n'était pas attendu avec un tapis rouge à son retour en Finlande. Il a commencé à se faire connaître en remportant la CHL 2017/18 pour JYP avec un blanchissage en finale. Ses excellents play-offs 2019 lui ont ouvert les portes de l'équipe nationale (et de la KHL).
Doublé médaillé d'or olympique et mondial en 2022 avec la Finlande. Il n'était que numéro 2 aux JO de Pékin, joués en pleine pandémie, car il a dû passer plusieurs jours en quarantaine dans sa chambre avec un peu de température même s'il n'avait aucun symptôme. Trois mois plus tard, son heure arriva et il fut MVP du Mondial 2022.
