Played a traditional stand-up style. Had an awkward playing style and was very acrobatic, often making spectacular saves. Technically good, but not in a traditional sense.
Aggressive goaltender who liked to challenge shooters.
Made 37 saves in his first NHL-shutout on October 15, 2000 vs Nashville (1-0).
Was voted the best goaltender and made the All-Star team at the 2001 World Championships.
Represented Czechoslovakia two times and the Czech Republic 97 times. Retired in 2010.
Stayed involved in ice hockey and became a sports manager and team manager.
Team leader for the Czech Republic national team.
In 2017 he got elected to the Czech parliament on ANO party list (without being member of any party).
His main goal was the autonomy of sport from the Ministry of Education.
In June 2019, the Czech Parliament approved the creation of an autonomous agency for sport.

Jouait un style debout classique. Avait un style de jeu peu conventionnel et était très acrobatique, effectuant souvent des sauvetages spectaculaires. Bon techniquement mais pas dans un sens traditionnel.
Gardien agressif qui aimait provoquer les tireurs.
Il a effectué un blanchissage de 37 arrêts lors de son premier match le 15 octobre 2000 contre Nashville (1-0)
Il a été élu meilleur gardien et a fait partie de l’équipe-type aux Mondiaux de 2001.
121 parties de saison régulière de NHL avec une moyenne de 3,31 buts encaissés par match et 90,0% d’arrêts.
2 sélections avec la Tchécoslovaquie et 97 avec la Tchéquie. Retraité en 2010.
Il est resté dans le monde du hockey en tant que directeur sportif. Manager de l’équipe nationale tchèque.
En 2017 il s'est fait élire au parlement tchèque comme candidat hors parti sur la liste du parti centriste/populiste ANO.
Il milite pour une meilleure prise en compte du sport et souhaite le faire sortir de la tutelle du Ministère de l'éducation.
En juin 2019, à sa seconde tentative, il a réussi à faire voter la création d'une agence autonome pour le sport.
