Defenseman with allround abilities and fine hockey sense. Good character.
Had the ability to transport the puck swiftly out of his own zone. Decent shot from the point.
A bit undersized for the defensive position (179 cm) but never shied away from the physical play. Good hip checks.
He realized physical preparation was lacking in Latvia, that's why he went to the ECHL and spent all day at the gym during his first year there.
Announced his retirement on July 29, 2016. Created a training center for young players and also worked for a player agency.
Holds Latvian record for national team games (230). Husband of TV host Jana Duļevska and father of Martins Laviņš.

Défenseur avec des aptitudes complètes et un bon sens du hockey. Bonne personnalité.
Il avait une aisance pour transporter le palet rapidement hors de sa zone. Un lancer correct de la ligne bleue.
Malgré son petit gabarit (179 cm), il ne craignait pas le jeu physique et était le maître des charges à la hanche.
Il constatait une carence dans la préparation physique en Lettonie, c'est pourquoi il est parti en ECHL où il passait sa journée en salle de musculation au cours de sa première saison nord-américaine.
Il a annoncé sa retraite le 29 juillet 2016. Il a créé un centre d'entraînement pour les jeunes mais s'est aussi essayé comme directeur du développement en Europe de l'agence de joueurs NHL de Daniel Milstein.
