Jean-Philippe Lemoine

Lemoine, Jean-Philippe

Position : D

11-09-1964 Valence, FRA

Youth team / club formateur : Villard-de-Lans

A pillar of strength on defense and liked to throw his weight around. Strong physical presence in his own slot. Powerful slapshot in the powerplay. Not the fastest skater. Took a lot of penalties. Able to deliver clever passes though.
His father was a constable. He started to play ice hockey at the age of five.
He did summer jobs during three years so he could pay the flight to Canada when he was 14.
Guy Dupuis advised him to go to Canada, and brought him back to France (Saint-Gervais) five years later.
Voted as the best defenseman at the 1986 Pool B World Championships and also was an All-Star.
Eight-time French league champion (1985, 1986, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1997) with four different clubs.
Played in DEL semi-final with Frankfurt but left Germany because his two children didn't speak German and weren't happy.
Came home in Villard-de-Lans and trained in Grenoble, but the club was in financial trouble and couldn't pay him.
Grenoble payed for equipment but Lemoine played as an amateur. He received unemployment benefits and payed for a training in sales management.
Officially retired in 2000 and became Grenoble manager during one year. Then he went to Granby, Québec, and played some semi-pro hockey games there until 2003.
Later he founded Vercors Construction Inc., a company specialized in wood construction.
