A puck-moving defenseman. Not afraid to join the rush, picking his spots carefully. Good hockey sense. Solid on the power play with a string slapshot. Aggressive in his own zone.
Solidly built but a bit undersized. More of a passer than shooter. Prone to mistakes when pressured and inconsistent.
Earned a spot on the 2016 Russian World Cup team when Slava Voynov couldn’t play.
Olympic champion 2018. Got an Olympic tattoo on his arm.
Opened a children hockey center under his name in Chelyabinsk and brought the Gagarin Cup (KHL champion 2019) during the opening.
His name spread in Russian gossips on Valentine's Day 2025 when he dated famous figure skater Kamila Valyeva (disqualified from her Olympic gold medal after a doping control). They broke in May 2026 and Valyeva wrote on her social networks: "An affair with a 34-year-old man is very cool until you understand why he is still single at 34". Nesterov was 33.

Défenseur offensif mais aussi agressif dans sa zone. Il ne craint pas de se joindre à l'offensive en choisissant attentivement sa place. Bon sens du hockey. Slap puissant en avantage numérique.
Bien bâti mais un peu petit (181 cm, 87 kg). Plus doué pour la passe que pour le tir. Prompt aux erreurs quand il est mis sous pression et inconstant.
Il a obtenu une place dans l'équipe russe à la Coupe du monde 2016 quand Slava Voynov n'a pas été autorisé à jouer.
Champion olympique 2018. Il s'est fait tatouer le logo olympique sur son bras.
Il a ouvert un centre de hockey pour enfants à son nom à Chelyabinsk et a amené la Coupe Gagarine remportée cette année-là avec la CSKA Moscou (champion KHL 2019) pour l'inauguration.
Son nom circula dans la presse people russe quand son couple avec la célèbre patineuse artistique Kamila Valieva (alors suspendue pour dopage après avoir été déchue de sa médaille d'or olympique 2022) fut révélée en février 2025. Ils rompirent après une dispute en mai 2026 et Valieva publia sur ses réseaux sociaux : "Une relation avec un homme de 34 ans, c'est très bien jusqu'à ce qu'on comprenne pourquoi il est encore célibataire à 34 ans". Nesterov pouvait être d'autant plus vexé qu'il en avait 33.
