First third-generation player in the Finnish league. Both his grandfather Aarno and his father Juha had played before him. His uncle Heikki Hietanen is a member of IIHF board.
Juha Hietanen spent his whole career with HPK (including only one season in SM-liiga) and his number 17 has been retired by the club. His son Juuso was the only one who had the right to wear it.
Skilled rightshooting defenseman with good hockey sense and mobility. Very accurate breakout passes.
Juho got his breakthrough in SM-liiga (with HPK) and in national team under the guidance of coach Jukka Jalonen.
Spent more than a decade playing in Sweden and the KHL. Played better in his career when he was given a lot of ice time.
He played in seven World Championships in the 2010s... but not the two years Finland won the gold medal. He was one of the last cuts in 2011.
He eventually got "his" gold medal with master defensive play in 2022 Olympics, and eventually got the WC gold three months later.
202 national team games, 74 points (22+52). Retired in 2025.

Premier hockeyeur de troisième génération du chamîonnat finlandais, où son grand-père Aarno [Tarmo Hämeenlinna 1949-1959] et son père Juha avaient joué avant lui. Son oncle Heikki Hietanen est membre du conseil d'administration de l'IIHF.
Juha a passé toute sa carrière au HPK, essentiellement en division 1 avec un court passage d'un an en élite (1983-84), et son numéro 17 a été retiré par le club. Son fils Juuso est le seul à avoir eu le droit de le porter.
Défenseur tirant de la droite qui a du talent, un bon sens du hockey et de la mobilité.
Aussi bien en SM-liiga (avec HPK) qu'en équipe nationale, Juho a percé sous la conduite de l'entraîneur Jukka Jalonen.
Il a passé quatre saisons en Suède et dix en KHL. Il joue mieux avec un temps de glace important.
Il a participé à sept championnats du monde de la décennie 2010... mais pas aux deux que la Finlande a remportés ! Il fut l'un des derniers joueurs retranchés avant le Mondial 2011.
Il a finalement obtenu "sa" médaille d'or par son jeu défensif plein de maîtrise et de métier aux Jeux olympiques 2022, puis le doublé aux Mondiaux la même année.
202 sélections en équipe de Finlande, 74 points (22+52). Retraité en 2025.
