Talented defenseman who began playing hockey at the age of five in the club Sāga. Was selected to play at the 2014 World Championships despite having suffered from a spinal injury and a concussion earlier that season.
Spent several years playing in North America. Studied sports management and graduated as an accountant in the United States.
Good speed and puck control. An offensive defenceman, he can join the rush but is not really a blueliner.

Défenseur talentueux qui débute dès ses cinq ans sous les couleurs du Sāga Riga. Son pays crut suffisamment en lui pour le sélectionner dès les Mondiaux 2014 alors que, encore junior, il sortait à peine d'une blessure à la colonne vertébrale doublée d'un traumatisme crânien.
Parti ensuite aux États-Unis pour y parfaire sa formation de hockeyeur et étudier le management sportif. Il y a obtenu un diplôme de comptabilité.
Rapide avec un bon contrôle du palet, Jaks est un défenseur offensif mobile qui se joint à l'attaque, mais son lancer manque d'impact à la ligne bleue.
