Decently sized defenseman (188 cm, 92 kg) with good work ethic and physicality. A great asset to protect a lead.
A late bloomer who was never called in any national junior team and didn't join Team Finland until he was 25.
Finnish champion 2008 - his first appearances in senior team - and 2014 with Kärpät. 2018 with Ak Bars Kazan.
His second daughter was born during the Summer of 2018 so he chose to stay close to his family and signed a five-year contrat with Kärpät. Still he was loaned two years to Lugano and to two KHL clubs (Barys and Lokomotiv).
Olympic champion 2022. World champion 2019 and 2022.
His fine hockey sense remained through the years but his turns got slower, which was costly during 2023 WC quarter final, which marked the end of his career as a permanent mainstay for Finland (he was only called for one Euro Hockey Tour tournament afterwards).

Champion de Finlande 2008 - essentiellement comme remplaçant pour ses premières apparitions en équipe première - et 2014 avec Kärpät. Vainqueur de la Coupe Gagarine 2018 avec Ak Bars Kazan.
La naissance de sa seconde fille à l'été 2018 le convainquit alors de signer un contrat de cinq ans avec Kärpät pour être plus près de sa famille. Il pouponna la première année mais fut ensuite prêté deux ans, à Lugano puis à deux clubs de KHL (Barys and Lokomotiv).
Champion olympique 2022. Champion du monde 2019 et 2022.
Son sens du hockey restait intact mais ses pivots sur les patins se firent plus lents, ce qui se révéla fatal lors du quart de finale du Mondial 2023, qui marqua la fin de dix années comme titulaire indiscutable pour la Finlande (il ne fut rappelé que pour un seul tournoi d'Euro Hockey Tour par la suite).
