Born to Czech parents in Belgium but grew up in Antwerp, Belgium - where his father played ice hockey - and Essen, West Germany. His own children grew up in Prague. Spoke five languages : Czech, German, Flemisch, English and a bit of French.
Scored four goals in his very first international game against Latvia in 1994 and got an Olympic ticket.
German champion in his second professional season in 1994, he chose to discover big ice hockey countries in a time travelling players were not so common.
He played in Canada (junior teammate of Eric Lindros in Oshawa), Germany, USA, Finland, Russia and Czech Republic. Brother-in-law of Jaroslav Bednar.
Physically big center (189 cm, 96 kg) who could play a good las pass. Switched to defense when Hans Zach was German national team coach (2001-2004).
Represented Germany 175 times. Played in lower German leagues later on in his career.
Had to follow doctor advice and to stop his career at the age of 46 because of a recurring knee injury.

Né en Belgique de parents tchèques, il a grandi à Anvers en Belgique - où son père était hockeyeur - et à Essen en Allemagne de l'Ouest. Ses propres enfants ont grandi à Prague. Il parle cinq langues : tchèque, allemand, flamand, anglais et un peu français.
Il a marqué quatre buts dès son tout premier match international contre la Lettonie en 1994 et a gagné sa place aux Jeux olympiques.
Champion d'Allemagne dès sa seconde saison professionnelle en 1994, il a choisi de découvrir les grands pays de hockey à une époque où les joueurs ne voyageaient pas autant.
Il est passé par le Canada (coéquipier d'Eric Lindros en junior à Oshawa), l'Allemagne, les États-Unis, la Finlande, la Russie et la République Tchèque. Beau-frère de Jaroslav Bednar. Réputé comme un tombeur de ces dames.
Ce centre de beau gabarit (189 cm, 96 kg), capable de belles passes décisives, est passé en défense quand Hans Zach entraînait l'équipe d'Allemagne (2001-2004) mais préférait son poste initial qu'il occupait en club.
175 sélections en équipe d'Allemagne. Il a joué dans les divisions inférieures allemandes à la fin de sa carrière.
Il n'a arrêté de jouer qu'à 46 ans, contraint de suivre les conseils du médecin à cause d'une blessure récurrente au genou.
