Honest player in all three zones. A fast skater with excellent stick handling skills.
Considered one of the best Latvian prospects in years when he was drafted in the NHL by Toronto Maple Leafs in 2015. After that he spent two years playing junior hockey in Canada but didn't improve there and was almost considered a lost prospect back home. Then after his first professional season where he played in the AHL and ECHL he requested a trade back to Latvia, as he was not happy about his demotion to the ECHL and the fact that Toronto’s contract offer wasn’t good enough.
In 2019 Daugavins late injury made him start his first World Championships in the first line but he wasn't convincing there.
After Latvia's bronze medal in 2023 his career had un expected turn. When he signed with Skellefteå in SHL he was turned from an offensive player to a penalty killing specialist. He played 55 shorthanded minutes without conceding a single goal and was crowned Swedish champion.

Considéré comme l'un des meilleurs espoirs lettons depuis des années au moment de sa draft en NHL par les Toronto Maple Leafs en 2015. Il a alors joué deux années juniors au Canada mais n'y a pas progressé et était presque considéré comme un talent perdu au pays. >Après sa première saison professionelle en AHL et ECHL, il a demandé à rentrer en Lettonie, peu satisfait de sa rétrogradation en ECHL et du contrat proposé par Toronto.

Soudain promu en première ligne pour ses premiers Mondiaux en 2019 après la blessure de Daugavins, il n'a pas su y convaincre.

Après la médaille de bronze historique de la Lettonie en 2023 sa carrière a pris un autre tour inattendu. En signant avec Skellefteå en SHL il s'est transformé de joueur offensif en spécialiste du désavantage numérique. Il a joué 55 minutes en infériorité sans concéder le moindre but et a été couronné champion de Suède.
