A defenseman until the age of 14 before switching to the forward position.
Grew up in Björndammen, a Göteborg suburbs, rooting for his hometown team Frölunda. His hockey heroes growing up was Håkan Loob and Kent Nilsson.
Impeccable work ethic. Smooth, creative and polished in all aspects of the game. Good penalty killer and also usable on the point on power plays.
Often misunderstood in the leadership department because of his silent leadership, not being the rah-rah type. Tendency to wear down over the course of the season because of his hard-working style of play.
He had won nothing but three district championships in soccer before he got 32. Then he became Swedish champion with Frölunda during NHL lockout season - and Olympic champion the next year.
Announced his retirement on November 27, 2014.

Défenseur au tout début, il passe attaquant à 14 ans.
Il a grandi à Björndammen, une banlieue de Göteborg, en adulant Frölunda, le club de sa ville natale et, parmi les joueurs, ses compatriotes Håkan Loob et Kent Nilsson.
État d'esprit irréprochable. Alfie semblait dérouler son jeu sans effort, quel que soit le défi imposé. Il était notamment un atout dans toutes les situations d'équipes spéciales.
Ses qualités de meneur étaient discutées par ceux qui ne conçoivent l'autorité qu'à grands éclats de voix. Alfredsson n'était pas de ceux-là. Il avait du mal à finir ses saisons à cause d'un style de jeu peu économe.
Il n'avait rien gagné, sauf trois championnats de district en football (!), avant de devenir champion de Suède avec Frölunda en 2005, puis champion olympique l'année suivante.
1157 points marqués (444+713) en 1246 parties de saison régulière de NHL. Il a annoncé sa retraite le 27 novembre 2014.
