Took up the sport of ice hockey at the age of four. At the age of six he was playing in three different leagues. His hockey heroes growing up was Mario Lemieux and Wayne Gretzky.
One of the best players in the world for almost two decades. A master of covering the puck and impossible to take the puck away from him. Incredibly strong legs, physically big with a superb stick technique. Fast and hard wristshot. Member of the Triple Gold Club (Stanley Cup, World and Olympic champion).
Carried the Czech flag at the opening ceremony of the 2010 Winter Olympics. Selected as the best forward at the 2011 World Championships and also made the All-Star team (also an All-Star in 2004 and 2005). Voted as the best player in the Czech Republic ten times.

Commence le hockey sur glace à quatre ans et, deux ans plus tard, participe déjà à trois championnats différents en catégories d'âge. Inspiré par Mario Lemieux et Wayne Gretzky, il leur sera digne.
Fut un des meilleurs joueurs du monde pendant vingt ans. Excellent dans la conservation du palet, on ne pouvait quasiment pas le lui piquer. Non content d'être hyper-solide sur ses appuis grâce à des jambes très costaudes, il avait une excellente technique et un tir éclair du poignet.
Membre du "Triple Gold club" réservé aux vainqueurs à la fois des JO, des Mondiaux et de la NHL, il fut porte-drapeau pour son pays aux JO 2010 et consacré meilleur attaquant des Mondiaux 2011, ainsi que nommé dans l'équipe-type des éditions 2004 et 2005. Dix fois élu meilleur hockeyeur tchèque de l'année.
Introduit au Hall of Fame du hockey tchèque.
