"The last pass is the heart of the attack" : Marcel Noebels heard this sentence from his coach Peter Kaczmarek when he was 13 in Krefeld and kept it in memory. It would resurface only later.
He spent two years of junior hockey in the WHL and his two first professional seasons in the AHL. In North America he was said to be not overly creative offensively. He was used as two-way winger who could drive his big body (190 cm, 93 kg) to the net and had a solid shot with a zing to it.
After he came back to Germany at 21 his game became more and more altruistic. When he became DEL player of the year two seasons in a row (2020 and 2021) he was considered as a passing master and came to more prominent role with national too.

En Amérique du Nord, où il a passé deux années de hockey junior en WHL et ses deux premières années professionnelles en AHL, on disait de lui qu'il n'était pas très créatif offensivement. Il était utilisé comme un ailier défensif qui pouvait aussi lancer son grand gabarit (190 cm, 93 kg) vers la cage adverse et avait un bon tir plein de punch.
Ce n'est qu'après son retour en Allemagne à 21 ans que son jeu est peu à peu devenu plus altruiste. Quand il a été élu joueur de l'année deux ans de suite en DEL (2020 et 2021) il était désormais considéré comme un maître de la passe et il accéda alors aussi à un rôle offensif plus proéminent avec l'équipe nationale.
Comme Zinedine Zidane dans une fameuse publicité, Marcel Noebels commence toujours par le côté gauche quand il s'équipe par superstition : la jambière gauche avant la droite, de même pour la chaussette gauche, la coudière gauche, la manche gauche du maillot et le gant gauche.
Vice-champion olympique 2018. Vice-champion du monde 2023.
